Hours: Averaging 40 hours per week annually

The Role

We are looking for a hardworking and reliable Grounds Maintenance Operativeto join our established team. You will be responsible for a range of grounds maintenance tasks as well as general upkeep and basic maintenance of equipment.

This is a practical, hands‑on role suited to someone who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in their work, and can operate effectively across different sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out general grounds maintenance including grass cutting, hedge trimming, strimming, leaf clearance, and weed control

  • Maintain outdoor spaces to a high standard across various client sites

  • A positive attitude and strong work ethic — we value people who work hard, support their team, and are genuinely pleasant to work with

  • Hours of work are planned in line with seasonal demand and average 40 hours per week over the course of the year. Actual working hours are allocated on an annualised hours basis, meaning you will work different numbers of hours throughout the year — with summer being the busiest period.
    Bank holiday working is required.

  • Conduct basic maintenance and checks on tools and machinery

  • Ensure equipment is used safely and stored correctly

  • Work effectively as part of a team and follow instructions from supervisors

  • Travel to sites across the West Midlands as required

  • Adhere to all company health and safety procedures

Working Hours


About You

Essential:

  • Experience in grounds maintenance or outdoor labouring roles

  • Ability to use grounds maintenance tools and equipment safely

  • Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in all weather

  • Good timekeeping, reliability, and a positive work ethic

  • Full UK driving licence (essential for site travel)

  • Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check (including children’s barred list) due to work in school environments

Desirable:

  • Experience using ride-on mowers, trimmers, or other machinery

  • PA1/6 Licence for pesticide spraying.

  • Basic mechanical or equipment maintenance knowledge

Do You hold a full UK valid Driving Licence?
Can you commute to Halesfield reliably everyday?
Are you comfortable travelling to different sites across the West Midlands in a company vehicle?
Are you confident using grounds maintenance tools and machinery safely?
Do you hold a PA1/PA6 spraying licence?
This role uses annualised hours. (45 hours per week March to October and 30 hours per week November to February) Are you happy to work different hours depending on the season?
Are you comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions?
Bank Holiday work is required - Are you able to work these when needed?
Are you able to provide all right to work documents, i.e. passport, or birth certificate with proof of national insurance number. (If none UK passport a share code will be required)
If you are successful, you will be required to provide identity documents to complete a DBS check. Are you able to provide the necessary documentation?
Have you previously worked in a school or similar environment?
Are you comfortable working around children and following safeguarding procedures?
Have you received any training related to safeguarding or working in environments with children/vulnerable adults?
Do you understand what a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check is and why it’s required in a school setting?
Are you willing to undergo a DBS check (or equivalent) as this role involves working in a school environment?
